Hey Merveilles!

I'm Jordan and I'm interested in computers, weather, bicycles, notebooks, operating systems, coffee, nonfiction books, and the like. I'm a software engineer by day (and night), and I write a lot of software that usually doesn't leave my hard drive, but often that's the point. You can probably find me out in the world riding my bike along a dirt path going nowhere, standing out in a thunderstorm, or describing permacomputing to a friend.

I'm excited to be in town!

I’m not exactly , but I’m posting a fresh anyway.

Hi, I’m Ramses Revengeday (xe/xem, they/them, he/him) - autistic composer, artist, cyberpunk, and certified weirdo with two cats.

I make strange music and strange art, plus whatever weird little side quest my brain decides to spawn next. Sometimes that means music for games, series, documentaries, commercials, or TV stuff. Sometimes it’s just me chasing a sound at 3am because it felt haunted in the right way.

Music-wise, I’m into Drum and Bass, Neurofunk, Dubstep, Techstep, Metalstep, Cinematic stuff, and anything that sounds like a broken machine trying to feel something.

Art-wise, I mostly do XBIN, ANSI, and ASCII - lots of 90s/2000s anime energy, cyberpunk, retro tech, terminal vibes, and digital garbage.

digital collage featuring multiple overlapping windows with anime-style artwork. Each window has a different drawing of characters, mostly female, in various poses and outfits, including casual clothing and lingerie. Prominent colors are purple, pink, and black, giving a cyberpunk aesthetic. One large window in the center contains bold text reading "FUCK AI" in a pixelated, retro video game font. Other windows display phrases like "BURN," "KILL THE RICH," and various character portraits. A "System Message" window at the bottom shows a warning prompt, with text options to "Wait" or "Cancel." The interface mimics a computer desktop with a toolbar on the left showing options like "File," "Edit," and "Help."

                What's not in my profile?

I used to be a huge Wirth-ian in the 1990s and spewed excellent tirades against the evils of C. Niklaus Wirth is also my "PhD grandfather" via Michael Franz at .

I prefer lecturing sitting down in front of a laptop and talking while I do stuff on said laptop. I very much dislike slides and prefer chalk and blackboard for things like data structures.

I got my "15 minutes of fame" served unexpectedly:

                insidehighered.com/news/2013/0

                archive.nytimes.com/economix.b

                But it still was fun.

I got my undergraduate degree from cs.hm.edu/ which back then was not allowed to feed into PhD programs. It's a thing in Germany: Everything is tiered and changing the tiers requires a change to the constitution of the republic (I am joking, but not really) so it takes a while. (Nowadays it would be easier to go on to a PhD from there.) The "plus" was that I spent two semesters in industry. In one I quickly out-FORTRAN-ed my boss, in the other I learned C++ from Stroustrup in two weeks while riding the bus. Beat that Ivy League!

I grew up on and (well, I guess) assembly, went on to assembly, and lots of . Of course I was dabbling in , , , and more. Then it was mostly whatever I needed so , , , lots of , lots more , lots more and assembly, some , some , some even if you can believe it. Nowadays it's pretty much all day with chunks of and bits of now and then. And chunks of too.
