Middle Ages in Modern Games conference banner for 5-7 October 2026, wit the theme Possible Worlds/Possible Pasts. My party is at a major transition point, so I don’t know what to prep exactly. I have two likely paths, but their reactions might be volatile and unpredictable. We’ll see how things shape up tomorrow.

A fantasy "village" map (actually a kind of cult compound evolved from a failed health resort) in progress. Mostly trees because the inhabitants worship the forest.

Admitting to meta gaming to cause emotional damage to other players is not the flex you think it is.
Character bleed probably inspires the most meta gaming.
Never trust anyone who says that they don't deal with character bleed.

Yesterday I ran a game of Classic Traveller. The group needs to leave a palace, gross a river, travel through a city, enter an airship port and gain access to their spaceship, all within one night. That's the adventure. The game happens in 15 min turns, every region has its own encounter tables, to be rolled on every 15 min and whenever entering a new region. The tables have different encounter probabilities and once half the allotted time has passed, reenforcements arrive for the bad guys and many of the tables take a turn for the worse. It's a low prep (since encounters get rolled up on the spot), high improv game and I like that.
What I didn't like, however, was that the session ended in a shootout between the party of eight (four player characters) and more than 20 enemy soldiers, in the semi dark. What a mess to adjudicate -- and the fight takes surprisingly long. When I read it, I thought a frontal assault would be over in two rounds. But no. We're at least in the fourth round and the only definite result we have is that the scientist in the team surrendered whereas the rest is still shooting.

Just returned to running my Traveller campaign after a month's break.
We last ended on a cliffhanger, and my campaign notes are incomplete and well-nigh unreadable. I honestly couldn't remember exactly where we were and what we were doing.

The cabin is cozy: it has a corner for the sleeping area with an individual bed, bedside table and even a rug and slippers; there's a fireplace and a nice armchair, someone's in the middle of knitting something while drinking a cup of tea while a pie cools down on the windowsill. There are knick-knacks everywhere, jars for preserves, some barrels, drying herbs, a piece of furniture for home stuff like dishes. There's also a small desk where someone's been writing and reading books, and a chest next to the bed. The outdoors is just grass and some flowers. In front of the door there are some stepping stones. This is a 7x7 grid encounter map, the cabin is a bit bigger than 5x5.

I don't really play a lot of White Wolf games, but this is a delightful exercise. Here's the one's I'd do.
Vampire - Post WWII Vienna. Basically it's The Third Man, but Harry Lime is a vampire.
Werewolf - late 19th century Michigan. Old-growth forests and the beginnings of corporate logging. Also fun lumberjack lore.
Mage - 1950s California weirdness. Jack Parsons, JPL Void Engineers, L. Ron Hubbard.

Just ran a one-shot of Mutant Crawl Classics. The system is a little messy, but the adventure I ran was delightful - Crash of the Titans.
The PCs travel through a ruined city, while two enormous kaiju blunder through the city randomly.
A map with two paper Kaiju standees is provided to keep track of where the creatures are.
The town of Darsildorf, home-based in my #SoloRPG #OSE campaign. It’s not complete but I add to it as needed. Many adventures have started in this settlement, and many more to come yet. #DungeonsAndDragons #TTRPG #DnD
