Dear #ttrpg and #osr bubble(s): Please explain the hype about Mythic Bastionland to me. From a glance, it looks like OSR Pendragon, with a bit of Mononoke and Elric, and probably way too much domain play (TBF, for me "way too much" is basically "any"). But it seems to have fans beyond the suspected Venn diagram overlap of these elements. So maybe something I missed?

Dungeon Crawler Carl book 8, which is FUCKING HUGE, 688 pages. WTF. It's thicker than a Dungeon Crawl Classics doorstop.
B/X reprints look great, B back cover's a little blurry? X has 1981 TSR catalog in color! B1 map's a little fuzzy, scan not remake. B2 map's stuck in the margin a bit, but it's usable & sharper. B4's lovely. X1's lovely but world map's pinched in the margin. X2… map is on the inside covers, but one column is completely blocked out.

So obvious it's hard to avoid: D&D 5E. Initially promoted as "OSR + new stuff is optional!", it's a GIGANTIC stack of baked-in setting assumptions in character gen, plays like a board game based on a bad anime series (5 eps later: Still in fight one), has no dungeon crawling procedures, which seems a problem for a "Dungeons &" game. Every update gets worse. Hasbro is a menace.

FATE-based games like Starblazer Adventures, FUDGE does everything in it better, but FATE adds all this crap on top. I don't need mechanics to run a story.
Burning Wheel: If you like IRS forms, have I got a game for you! Combines heavy procedures with no simulation or descriptive results. Maybe worst RPG ever?
Cthulhutech: Playtested this. 3 scales don't work together at all, mechanics mildly suck. Writers are low-literacy edgelords who don't understand Lovecraft.

@mdhughes @HeyeBodo Yeah, it wasn't the pure crunch or the art. I like crunch more than the top percentiles of #ttrpg here. And while I viscerally dislike Laubenstein, I still played more my share of Shadowrun. But the combination, plus having this bought at full price back then resulted into me bouncing off hard. (I think I ever tried that Wulin game to see if it fixed things for me)
The fact that I can't just pinpoint my source of dislike is a big part why I mentioned it. I mean, I know why I don't like Savage Worlds or (German) Midgard, so that's a much more boring reply.

@synlogic4242 @nyrath In my HackWaste, the apocalypse happens mid-21st C, so most firearms are basically modern guns, but then the last decade of war produced an insane range of weird crowd control, ray guns, & such, & there's parallel development from the spacers.
I'm not even that much of a gun-pornographer, but it's clearly got more attention than some of my other tech.

Seems like Star Frontiers finally got Delta Dan Collins on board with rolling low is a pretty good mechanic.
