Thursday Night AWBO S3: Post Apocalyptic Parenting

I decided to write out the intro to the next session. Maybe it made it easier to jump into the session.

oh, I haven't posted about my Glimmermark game two days ago: we had a death of one of the NPC henchmen. They were exploring the caverns under the Keep a bit more, and came across a giant toad that grabbed one of the hobbits with it's tongue.

that didn't actually kill the hobbit, but one of the ranged fighters in the back did, when I ruled that he'd hit the hobbit on a critical miss.

he of course rolled a 1.

      and then 6 damage.

                        World’s Largest Dungeon

A tale of incompetence in 3 parts.

We repeatedly reported missing labels on the maps using various forms of communication over the last 11 months.

It’s like nobody on their team has ever looked at the maps to see all the unlabeled rooms in a fucking year.

This is the kind of quality control the “Traveller 5e” backers will learn about in a year when they start asking where the pdfs are.

I've always had an interest in the campaign setting, but earlier editions had one extant detail that turned me off: the idea of the Domains mushed together into a continent. With the wildly different cultures and technological levels that somehow did not begin to mutate through exchange, it made absolutely no sense to me. "The Dark Powers did it" was never a satifactory explanation to me. The "islands" that were introduced later on were more satisfactory to me.

The latest edition does away with the idea of the "Core" and turns every Domain into an island. This appeals to me. However, the book only presents 16 Domains (including the new Lovecraft-inspired Innsmouth). Gone are many of the odder, more interesting ones, like Bluetspur, the land of the Illithids and their insane God-Brain. They would be easy enough to bring back if one has access to earlier editions (especially 3e's Domains of Dread, published by White Wolf), I suppose, but I'm lazy.

I do plan to pick up the book at some point in the near future.

One of the concepts in the scenario was "flattening" the scale of combat so that we're throwing lots of dice like Chainmail, and resolving combat using CM armor concepts - but maintaining the concept of hit points from OD&D. It's definitely a mashup, since this scenario has a lot of individuals accompanying troops.
