Is there no longer a way to export your dwarf fortress maps?!?
How am I supposed to turn this into a dungeon for my RPG campaign?
Ten years ago, I hobbled together my take on FASERIP by taking the public domain 4CS game and changing it to use 1d20 and doing a makeover on the tables and rules. It now has 850+ downloads.
Even the art in the pdf is public domain from comic books that let their copyright expire.
#dsa #aventurien #pnp #ttrpg #roman

Michael is a long-time, like-a-brother friend of mine who writes great, fun, easy-to-learn and easy-to-play games -- all for free! I may even have something to do with several of the games written by various folks and published under his imprint! (Under my necronym, but hey, the perils of transitioning as a mature adult...) You can even find my own game based on his magnificent WyRM System: Resolute, Adventurer & Genius.
Go check out his site, explore the games, and be entertained!
Have you had a look at Issue 58 of d12 Monthly, my #DnD zine? It’s an alternate players' guide for @OSE.
So, get your old school #DungeonsAndDragon gear on and grab a copy today! https://yumdm.short.gy/d12Monthly58
Ooooh This looks good. Does anyone get these? I might have to snag a few. Issue 30 is on sale, as well. https://yumdm.short.gy/Crusader30
Getting older is also reading the 1st edition of Shadowrun and realizing we were promised a dystopia where the bad guys turned out to be actually interesting.
At least the money hoarding sleazeballs in Shadowrun were supersmart reptiles and not featureless balls of dough.
If you are near #Olympia, WA and enjoy a #ttrpg or #storygame, you ought to check out Heart of the Deernicorn's game night!

Even Gary Gygax did not play D&D as written. Here are his house rules for OD&D he wrote about in 2007
• STR > 14: +1 to hit and +1 to damage if a Fighter
• INT > 14: +1 1st level m-u spell
• WIS > 14: +1 1st level cleric spell
• DEX > 14: +1 to AC, and +1 to move silently
• CON > 14: +1 HP per HD (same as a Fighter class gets, +2 if a
Fighter)
• CHA > 14: +1 (positive) on reaction checks
• HPs: Characters are only unconscious at 0 HPs. For each level a
character may have a minus HP total equal to the level, so a 1st level
PC is dead at -2, a 2nd level at -3, etc.
• When taking damage allow -1 HP per character level

Anyone have any impressions of the Blades in the Dark #ttrpg rules set?
For context, I am familiar with 5E and Pathfinder to eat.
Finally got to be a player instead of a Forever GM yesterday, in my first session of a Mythic Bastionland campaign.
Mythic Bastionland is a much more interesting game than I thought. I was sort of expecting a much more gonzo setting and system, based on what I'd seen in Electric Bastionland, but it was a lot closer to something like Pendragon - noble knights on a quest over a long period of time.
I'm playing Sir Oswald, the Fanged Knight.
Steve Jackson Games is looking for full-time PDF #Accessibility specialist as a #RemoteWork contractor.
Some musings on what I like in #ttrpg :
I do like it when player characters get more powerful and competent over time. But the power curve of #DnD and its derivatives is too steep for me - I like it when a campaign has room to breathe.
Thus, some of my favorite RPGs have a middle ground of slow but steady improvement - where the players can pick some minor improvements after each session or two which become impressive over time. #GURPS and #WFRP are some good examples of this style of play - the characters can become very powerful over the course of a long campaign without actually developing into the equivalent of superheroes.
What is your preference when it comes to the power curve in RPGs?
My hope is that this article will serve as a single landing-point for folks curious about what I mean by "High-Trust Trad" roleplaying, or HTT.

But, I know about hope, and the Internet. 😁
Another Eternal Question for D&D
What D&D initiative system do you use?
If you are not familiar with the phases options, it breaks down initiative into phases of Movement, Missile, Spells, Melee.
And as always, leave a comment if none of them apply.
| individual rolls: | 15 |
| each side rolls: | 5 |
| each side rolls with phases: | 2 |
| simultaneous: | 0 |

Discoverable Terrain in TTRPGs
During the Covid-19 phase, my group went online. We used Roll20 to continue playing.
Some aspects of this transformation were bad, other aspects were good.
Among the things that worked better was the easy handling of discoverable terrain.
You had the complete ma, but revealed only what the players could see. One could easily have "hidden" points-of-interest that awaited their discovery on a second layer.
I have been looking into how I could preserve this discoverability when going onprem again.
For dungeons I was using "Dungeon Blocks" with self-printed blocks.
But for the maps of the region, I was still missing an option until I discovers Masters of the Realm.
This allows me to design a region at the PC and then create 3d-printed hey tiles to make it "physical".
As my printer (Bambulabs P2S) allows color changed per layer, I was able to reduce the "hand painting" of the tiles to a minimum.
Below you see images of the first map I used in an adventure today.
Another itch.io anecdote!
For the last couple of days, 80% of people buying my little hobby games on itch added a tip on top of the asking price. And not just a $1 tip - one person tipped $15!
As usual, my feelings about it are less about the money and more about the vote of confidence. It’s heartening.
DTRPG is the big player in this space but I don’t get warm fuzzies from sales there. Itch feels more like a supportive community than just a storefront.
I got the revised version of #GURPS 4E (well, the PDF version).
I just wish there was a snowball's chance in hell for convincing my local #ttrpg group to use this.
