I'm spending more of my spare time writing material for TTRPGs, and the words and ideas are beginning to flow.

In the interests of trying to do this in a more professional way, I've launched a little Patreon that will showcase that game development work (and the occasional diversion into life in the bush).

I'd be delighted if any of you chose to follow my efforts. You can find me at patreon.com/cw/forestvalleygam.

10 years ago yesterday, Cloud Giant's Bargain was given out in theaters showing an event where Penny Arcade played D&D live as Acquisitions Incorporated!

I had the pleasure of writing this, while @scottfgray turned my words into magic! It is one of my favorite projects.

I need some interesting magic items to give my group. I must admit, Nimble’s sample magic items are very few and not the best.

I want to give them some useful utility items that won’t break the game but will expand their options.

This is at the intersection of and for Fedifolks:

I am looking to commission a for a 1e campaign. The setting is a large island, roughly circular, with multiple countries arranged in a ring around a central mountainous plateau wherein a Dark Force (possibly even a Dark Tower *cough*ripping off a beloved board game *cough*) is beginning to stir, threatening the entire island. A few smaller islands may lie scattered around the main island.

Any out there interested in taking the commission? I can describe more if we connect. Definitely a paying job. Any takers?

Will we use it going forward? Perhaps! There's some interest in using abstract/mass combat to speed along wandering monster or large group encounters, and possibly exploring the detailed combat as it uses bellcurved 2d6 vs flat 1d20.

It was maybe 1989 or 1990 when I first started saying some version of the following in GMing conversations:

"When I prep, there's a likely version of the game session in my head, but anytime it actually goes that way, I feel a little pang of disappointment."

Delight at the PCs upending my expectations, to the point of (a little) sadness when they didn't, was a pillar of my GMing years before I had the tools or perspective I have now, but it's a clear antecedent. 😅

The writing for the original books is more like Gamma World 1E, or fantasy Twilight 2000. Powerful but very squishy characters try to survive day by day, maybe die leading a revolt somewhere.
