In this weeks game, the players decided to go back into Dwimmermount after 2 years of doing other things in the campaign. Not even sure why they decided to do that. I think it was just that it was nearby, and they were tired of overland hex crawl type adventures.

So, they made their way down into level 2. They fought some rat-men, even though they could have parlayed. The group is just not much into parlaying.

One of the group died, but, at least, this time, the group decided it was their fault and not some bad ruling by the referee, heh.

I wanted to add a few more links to the good old OSR LinksToWisdom wiki, especially as @kensanata posted a link to a form to do that easy on our chat today.

instead I somehow started reworking a blog article I posted 15 years ago into something for my current campaign.

One good thing about getting older is that you know yourself better. With that in mind, I’m happy producing my little indie zine - if it got too big, it would become too stressful. I don’t want that. I’m happy being indie.

Working slowly on a project where I see how monsters in affect the ordinary lives on common folk. Herders, for example, have a lot more to worry about than wolves and bandits - monsters roam and hunt, as well.

This is still, very much, a work in progress, but now, you can actually play through ascii maps. I worked on passing the ascii layout to the javascript port of Richard Garriott's DND1.

So I made an ascii representation of the first dungeon in the D&D red box. And I can now pass that to the DND1 engine, and you can play it. I mean, it is not going to be the same experience. It does not implement a bunch of features that would need to be done to have static monster encounters, and scripted events and other things like that. But, maybe, one day, I will get around to enhancing it.

EDIT Also, this means you can go make your own maps. You can see the above map in the ascii to svg tool.

                                                            Different custom run length encoding

                                                            Store length and remove newlines.
                                                            Bit packing.
                                                            Base64 with url safe chars.
Switching algorithms around and choosing the ones that made the shortest URL.

And even with all of that, lz-string with Base64 would produce shorter URL.

So now, the ascii map to svg tiles uses lz-string to share.

PCs are militia & magic loonies with guns fighting them.
