Ah, finally got that out of my system. Only to discover that there's just been another game submitted with a bell and a colossus…
I'm making a Diplomat class for a Chimera RPG hack I'm making and I came up with this Feat/Special Perk for the Diplomat:
Defusing Monologue: Once per day or chapter of an adventure (or act of an adventure) the Diplomat may test Resolve to defuse a situation, attracting everyone's attention by launching into a serious, intimate, meandering, and potentially incoherent but nonetheless true monologue about why everyone is there, what we're all here for, who our real enemies are, what we want in life, the insignificance of this conflict and the tremendous import of every breath we take to defuse the situation and confuse everyone (even the PCs who wished to fight) out of hostilities. It's often easiest to maintain the peace by not allowing a Q&A portion and dramatically exiting the scene.

The Wandering DMs talk about D&D invisibility spell and items. And how tricky the rules can be, and how, generally, the rules for invisibility have become more restrictive with each new edition.
In my little homebrew game, I change invisibility to just be more like a chameleon ability. It avoids some of the pitfalls discussed.
How influential is religion in your world? How influential would it like to be?

One trait I took away from races in Issue 58 of d12 Monthly is any sort of racial darkvision/infravision. Elves get low-light vision & dwarves get deepvision.
This means torches, lanterns, or magic are a must & it keeps darkness scary. #DungeonsAndDragons #TTRPG #DnD
My Daggerheart Campaign Frame "Stars' Embrace" is live on itch.io! Still sci-fantasy or sci-fi, whichever you prefer. Still free, still without creepy "AI" stuff.

Anybody who is looking for a new superhero or super villain name, at least for a certain genre of superhero play - here you go
Now that's a pile of Rolemaster books. A little rich at $8ish each, but tempting. Yay, used book store with extensive shelf space.
Just started a Tales From The Loop campaign. Bi-weekly, on Thursdays.
It's such an interesting setting, with a lovely elegiac tone to it. My players were delighted when I explained the "Kids Never Die" rule.
Perhaps the only #TTRPG setting based on paintings.

It's Cthulhu Mythos in Tunnels & Trolls/Monsters! Monsters! compatible form! Be a graverobber or a dreamer or scholar or a gibbering degenerate idiot! Fight powers you cannot comprehend!
Just grab the T&T Beginner's Bundle or anything like a free RPG day booklet, that says it has "mini-rules", to run it.
Officially, D&D did not adopt individual initiative until 3rd edition. But I feel like it was a very common house rule at the time. Certainly every other rpg I played in the 80s did it (Rolemaster, Palladium Fantasy, Warhammer FRP, Talislanta).
Was individual initiative a common house rule in AD&D?
In the 80s I played:
| AD&D w/ Side Initiative: | 4 |
| AD&D w/ Individual Init: | 18 |
| Better RPGs: | 9 |
| Nobody was alive then: | 11 |

Heute im @jungundaltspielt bleibt mein offenes #Erzählspiel-Angebot ungenutzt.
Auch völlig OK und eine gute Gelegenheit, mich wieder in etwas neues einzulesen bzw was vorzubereiten.
Three kernels of ideas for TTRPGs
1. A prediction market is giving odds on your murder! Holy fuck!
2. A genie has granted three wishes to the most incompetent person in the realm. Now you must deal with the aftermath!
3. Your TTRPG players and now events that have happened in your games are happening in real life! What is going on?
@deinol Monsters! Monsters! works great for that kind of adventure. Get your monster allies together to raid the Keep. Recruit some Lizardman mercenaries. I usually quick-and-dirty convert stuff 1 Level = 15 MR, but for this I think I'd individually stat up at least the major figures.

Someone said that “if you can run Keep on the Borderlands with it, it’s OSR”.
I’m pretty sure that’s not true. I of course immediately tried to think of the most story game way to run B2. My first thought is reverse B2 using No Country for Old Kobolds.
What’s the most indie way you would run the classic Keep on the Borderlands?

I'm getting an early start to looking forward to the weekend, what is everyone playing?

I love the idea of a solo #DnD game focused on regional management. Every in-game month, random tables drive events & I decide how local settlements & factions react. No individual PCs - just managing adventuring parties as factions, simplifying combat #DungeonsAndDragons #TTRPG

After playing and improvising a 1d100 system on AD&D, I went and picked up a copy of Stormbringer to look into other 1d100 systems. Maybe get some ideas.
I feel like this game was overlooked in the states, but what do I know.
It is actually quite good. Not perfect. Quite a few things I ended up doing are already present in this game.
But, there is just one thing about all the BRP, Runequest games that bugs me. I am not saying it is wrong or bad, just bugs me. I do not like SIZE being in the same block as other attributes like Strength, Intelligence, etc...
In concept, I like the idea that there are categories of sizes, and things change when you are in those other size ranges, but having it be a STAT that ranges from 1 to 100 does not appeal to me. Feels too fiddly. And I would probably rule that all characters are about the same size range anyways.
an attempt at something: https://codeberg.org/kyonshi/Tabletop-Roleplaying-Resources
a collection of free #ttrpg resources
I know that's a bit of a wide approach, but that's kind of the point. it's supposed to be like the awesome lists on github or the delightful lists on codeberg
Part of being an #RPGFogey is that I see RPG design as a support role. I'm not the chef, your gaming table is not Chez S. John; playing my games isn't an experience I've designed for you.
I'm the grocer. I'm fussing over the produce, highlighting some ribeye we got in yesterday, making sure we've got all the spices and starches and condiments, plus an OK selection of mixing bowls and utensils and things.
I just make _stuff,_ for others to make their feast with.
This is not modern.
