I wrote this strange little program to try and figure out just how many magic items would a character have at various levels in Moldvay/Cook B/X Dungeons & Dragons.

      The concept is,
You are a level 1 fighter.
You pick what level you want to be.
It generates rooms from the stock tables.
It generates monsters from the monster tables.
It generates treasure from the treasure tables.

      You defeat all monsters.
      You find all treasure.

The simulation stops when you reach (or go above) the desired level.

Been playing a game of Dwarf Fortress with a mind to turning it into a mega dungeon later.

I’m being less regular in my construction. I kinda expand haphazardly. Just made a small apartment complex by my mines.

Made a sheriff office/dining hall/bedroom off a hallway that leads to the mines, etc.

Thanks to an early flooding incident, I’m expanding primarily on the east side. Maybe next winter I can fix it.

I got lucky and haven’t been sieged yet.

so yesterday we had Glimmermark Session 52, which coincidentally also was the end of year 2 of the campaign.
This means that on average we played every two weeks, which is the most regular game I have ever managed.

There was really not much special that was actually happening in the session though. They were going through the underground under the Castle a bit more and got into conflict with a bunch of Troglodytes after triggering their alarm system. The rest was exploration.

In the finalé of our campaign our heroes try to find a way to defeat SHEERARGETRU the Lord of Change and restore Karl Franz I, lest the Empire of Man fall into ruination and darkness.

                > Labyrinth Lord has the space to breathe. To continue its trajectory of compatibility with both B/X and first edition rules, while making those rules closer to how we all played anyway. …
Together we will answer the question of what might have happened if B/X grew organically on its own.

well, good news mostly for me, as I finally managed to get my selfhosted instance of the Convos web portal running again.

it's available on convos.wilderland.ovh and gives access to our little community

It's probably just nostalgia talking, but despite all the advances in graphic design over the years, I've never seen hex maps I liked more then the old Judge's Guild wilderness hex maps.

Brown ink on textured brown paper. There were GM and players versions, both in lovely fold-out four page maps.

@kevin @bwebster Recently, I had the privilege of playing in a game of at the con. @wandererbill ran an open table hexcrawl campaign and the game felt so fresh and modern, like I was being timewarped back into the 70s and xperiencing this game for the first time. Why was it so amazing? One aspect (besides great dm), I guess: the world was the character sheet, we were collaboratively working on

Recent discussions got me to thinking back on the Gazeteer series again. Every now and then, I lament the point that Basic D&D was looked down upon in the 80s. Everyone cool was playing Advanced D&D.

But Basic had a lot of stuff going on in it. It tried all kinds of crazy rules, settings. It was a more open canvas.

The Five Shires finally gave halflings their due. Written by Ed Greenwood. Lot of interesting ideas for the setting.

In addition, it provided a way for halfing's to become the protector of the forests. They got a mix of druid and magic-user spells, as well as some completely new spells.

This idea was like prestige classes before 3e ever existed.

Ed Greenwood has hinted in the past that the Five Shires would fit comfortably within the Forgotten Realms, within the halfling kingdom of Luiren.
