our grenzland.club shared server (check it out: grenzland.club/ ) has a instance running that I have meant to do something with for a while.

talking about the LinksToWisdom wiki today I was thinking about how to actually get informed when something new shows up on there. Et voila: the @linkstowisdom account, which posts any changes to the wiki once an hour.

I wanted to add a few more links to the good old OSR LinksToWisdom wiki, especially as @kensanata posted a link to a form to do that easy on our chat today.

instead I somehow started reworking a blog article I posted 15 years ago into something for my current campaign.

man, I really think I have adhd.

anyway, here's a link to the wiki

This is still, very much, a work in progress, but now, you can actually play through ascii maps. I worked on passing the ascii layout to the javascript port of Richard Garriott's DND1.

So I made an ascii representation of the first dungeon in the D&D red box. And I can now pass that to the DND1 engine, and you can play it. I mean, it is not going to be the same experience. It does not implement a bunch of features that would need to be done to have static monster encounters, and scripted events and other things like that. But, maybe, one day, I will get around to enhancing it.

                random-wizard.neocities.org/as

EDIT Also, this means you can go make your own maps. You can see the above map in the ascii to svg tool.

Didn't help that they also rolled badly and just didn't deal the damage they normally do.

being a Bandit is pretty great. Just got a new place with a couple friends, in Doghammer Cave (long history of hammering dogs there). It's pretty nice for the area! Zero bedrooms zero bathrooms, but it's got a falling spikeball trap in the entrance and a couple big linear multipurpose rooms full of barrels. I put a couple gold coins in each barrel. Really makes it feel like home.
Our leader is Klade Doghammer (long history of hammering dogs). He's the only one of us with a name. He likes to sit in the last room (our house has a last room because it's linear) at a desk with a half-finished page of notebook about how he'll get revenge on the town someday. My best friend Female Archer Bandit said the people in the town don't even consider us human. She says if you stay a bandit long enough they kill you for money. Sometimes when she and I are alone on watch late at night I get a funny feeling in my bandit parts. I think I just heard the falling spikeball trap go off. We didn't invite anyone over today but I hope it's someone friendly. Being a bandit is pretty great.

An Anfang war Neugier und vlt auch sowas wie eine halbbewusste bucket List (einmal im Leben nach Vegas), aber dass das so viel Spaß macht, hätte ich nicht vermutet. Frage (if I may): warum 5e? Spannend, weil gerade 5e IMO (habs lange gespielt) sich so gegen Dungeoneering sträubt.

Using Strength for it was always weird, Wizards & Rogues were super-buff but needed to use a dagger because they'd spend it all & couldn't lift a sword. Later Wizardry stat works better.

RuneQuest spell skill rolls, & MP costs, are more like literature, but kinda annoying in play. You want magic to be more reliable.

related question inspired by a post of @kensanata : Across editions of DnD, including hacks, heartbreakers and DnD-derived games, what are your favorite variants, hacks of or homebrew takes on DnD’s magic system?
(For me, „Vancian“ Magic has always been part of the mechanics I like least about the game)

                                                          @JonasJRichter allgemeiner:
                                                          - man braucht eine begeisterte Kerngruppe, um die herum neue Spieler*innen onboardet werden können.
                                                          - persönlich würde sowas nur mit oder regelleichten Systemen (nicht unbedingt das Gleiche) machen. Mit einem Trad-Spiel, das auf hyperindividualisierte Personage und Backstory-Frontloading abzielt … schwierig!
                                                          - Open Table funktioniert als Kampagne, wenn das Spiel um einen bestimmten Ort kreist: 1 Megadungeon, 1 Wald, 1 Region
                                                          2/3

                                                            - Es gibt einen Pool von 15-20 aktiveren Spieler*innen (+ 20-25 Lurker*innen oder ab und zu Aktiven - was voll okay ist!)
                                                            - Kommunikation über Signalgruppe und Wiki (Spielrunden eintragen, Setting-Infos)

                                                            - Alle (inkl. SL) können kurzfristig absagen. Kein Peer-pressure
